Differences between coaching and mentoring

Mentorat

Mentoring is professional development that includes sharing knowledge and experiences.

The mentor is an experienced person in the IT field.

The relationship between the mentor and the mentee is voluntary, interpersonal, confidential and with no hierarchical link.

Objectives:

To develop autonomy, self-confidence and the ability to act on personal and professional development.

Possible contexts: integration into a new role, career progression or transition, leadership development, etc.

Duration: To be determined on a case-by-case basis, an average of 12 to 18 months.

Coaching is a partnership that focuses on the action our coachees intend to take to achieve their vision, goals and aspirations. Coaching raises questions leading participants to self-discovery, which increases their level of perception and responsibility. They benefit from a support structure and a valuable source of feedback.

The coach is an expert in the coaching processes, but not necessarily in the coachee's area of expertise. The professional relationship between coach and coachee is structured and confidential; the coach leads the supported person to find the answers within themselves.

Objectives:

To help better fulfill your current role.

To improve skills, knowledge, and competencies of your current or future role.

Duration: 6 to 12 months.

"I would like to thank Marine very much for her support in my coaching process. Through her great expertise, her humanity, and your transparency you were able to encourage a self-reflection, which in turn, allowed me to grow. I am coming out of our coaching sessions with objectives achieved, and great new challenges. Thank you for the trust that you were able to establish from the start of my coaching process. This allowed me to quickly achieve the objectives I had set."

The manager was really nice and she said she'd see if there was a position for me ... and she was going to put me in touch with a developer to do some “pairing” Thank you so much! it was you (Editor's note: Marine) who gave me the courage to ask if there was a position.”
